  • Vision changes
Severe allergic reactions
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Hives

Monitor persistent OxyContin side effects and be aware of a medical OxyContin overdose. Different people react differently to various medications. Contact your pharmacist or doctor immediately if these or other unlisted side effects occur.

OxyContin ® may cause severe hypotension.

OxyContin ® may be contraindicated or to be administered with caution in patients having:

  • Acute alcoholism
  • Adrenal or thyroid problems
  • Bowel disorders or obstructions (paralytic ileus)
  • Bronchial asthma
  • Circulatory shock
  • Decreased respiratory reserve (arterial blood gas)
  • Drug-related psychosis
  • Enlarged prostate
  • Excessive CO2 blood count (hypercarbia)
  • Pancreatitis
  • Pre-existing respiratory depression
  • Reduced blood oxygen (hypoxia)
  • Respiratory disorder affecting the right ventricle of the heart (cor pulmonale)
  • Semi-conscious state or in a coma
  • Severe kidney or liver disease
  • Significant chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Spinal deformities impacting the lungs
  • Urinating difficulties

Other serious health concerns:

  • Oxycodone, like all morphine-type painkillers, should be administered with extreme caution to patients in circulatory shock. The narrowing of the blood vessels produced by the drug may reduce heart rate (pulse) and lower blood pressure.
  • Intravenous injection proves particularly risky due to the possibility for lethal respiratory arrest.
  • OxyContin ® should be surveyed cautiously in patients with head injuries, brain tumors, and other conditions that apply increased pressure on the brain.

Additional signs of OxyContin overuse involve:

  • Decreased interest in sex and affection
  • Indifference toward family, events, or loved ones
  • Lack of will in doing simple things in life.
  • Loss of pleasure in favorite activities and hobbies.
  • Loss of professional or personal drive
  • Unawareness of how behavior and emotions distress others
  • Signs of clinical depression.

Call your doctor immediately if any Oxycontin side effects occur or worsen. Also seek immediate medical attention in the event of an unlikely allergic reaction.
